Private lessons will primarily be scheduled outside of our shop hours OR at the discretion of the instructor.

The cost for a 1 hour lesson is $25.

Classes
Call the store (518-861-0038) to get more info or to sign up. We ask for payment prior to class to secure your spot. Most classes require a minimum of 3 students. If we do not have enough students sign up, we will refund your class fee or reschedule the class. In the event of class cancellation by The Spinning Room (due to snow or tsunami, etc.) your fee will be refunded. Some classes require a bit of "homework" beforehand, so make sure to check before coming to class. All participants need to have their materials purchased before arriving for class. More details will be given upon registration. As always, you enjoy a 10% discount on materials for all classes.

Building in Lace 2024
WHEN: Wednesdays, 6-8pm
May 15, June 5 & 26 July 10 & 31, Aug. 21, Sept 11 Oct 2 & 23, Nov 13 (last class) INSTRUCTOR: Kathy Loegering FEE: $125 Do you want to expand on your knitting skills? Are you ready to venture into lace work? Working over an extended time frame you will learn several new skills and sharpen others at a relaxed pace. Learn new techniques and create a lace shawl without seams. Beads are optional but lovely. It is a dazzler. MATERIALS: Booklet: Building with Lace Booklet available at the shop. Yarn: Refer to the booklet for all specifics for this Lace shawl. Dk yarn is suggested. Needles: SizeUS 6/24” circular needle 4.00mm crochet hook(F) for the provisional cast on. Other tools: 628 No. 6 seed beads, optional Waste yarn for lifelines and cast on, removable markers, cable needle for some parts other misc. accessories HOMEWORK: We are going to start together but you should be sure to purchase the booklet Building in Lace by Michelle Hunter. It is available in our shop. All the specifics are there as to yarn amounts. All materials should be gathered prior to class.You should create a swatch as suggested to begin this class. Bring it to the first class. SKILL LEVEL: Not suitable for beginners. Is suitable for knitters who have learned basic stitches and are ready to challenge themselves to work on this lace project. |
Building Blocks 2024
WHEN: Wednesdays, 6-8pm
May 8 & 29, June 12, July 3 & 24, Aug. 14, Sept. 4 & 25, Oct. 16 Nov.6 (last class) INSTRUCTOR: Kathy Loegering FEE: $125 Hello Beginning Knitters. Building Blocks will be starting again in March. This is a skill builder class where you will learn a variety of new skills and stitches. You can knit a crib size blanket or larger while learning a new skill with each block. Sign up early as spaces fill quickly. A great gift. MATERIALS: Pattern: Purchase the booklet Building Blocks by Michelle Hunter, it is available at the shop. The book is worth the cost with valuable videos, tips and tricks. Yarn: You can use any weight yarn you prefer. The shop sample was made in worsted weight yarn. You will need 1 Skein (@200 yds) for each square in worsted weight yarn, more if you use heavier yarn. Needles: Size: US 7/16” or 8/16” or 24" circular and DPNs US 7 or 8. If you choose a different weight yarn, use the needle size indicated on the ball band. Misc. Tools: scissors, stitch markers, paper, pencil. HOMEWORK: Please get your pattern and materials before coming to class. We will start together. SKILL LEVEL: Beginner Knitters. |
June Classes
Chow Fun Cowl
WHEN: Saturday, June 1 9 - 11 am
INSTRUCTOR: Liz Cassidy FEE: $40 This is a quick cowl with a fun zig zag stitch pattern! A great small project for summer knitting. Liz will demonstrate the bind off for you to do at home. Students should be comfortable with knitting and purling and have some experience knitting in the round with circular needles. The pattern is written for 3 yarn weights, worsted, bulky and super bulky. MATERIALS: Pattern: The Chow Fun Cowl pattern can be purchased on Ravelry or thru the shop. Yarn: The pattern is written for 3 yarn weights, worsted, bulky and super bulky. You can use a weight of yarn you prefer. The class sample was made with 1 skein Malabrigo Rios worsted yarn and size 10 circular needle. Needles: Size appropriate for yarn you are using (see pattern). Stitch markers: at least one, but several may be helpful for keeping track of your first rows. HOMEWORK: Cast on the number of stitches for the yarn you are using (instructions given for casting on with worsted, bulky, and super bulky yarn). SKILL LEVEL: Students should be comfortable with knitting and purling and have some experience knitting in the round with circular needles. |
Pattern Search on Ravelry This is an online-class!
WHEN: Tuesday, June 4, 7- 8 pm
INSTRUCTOR: Heike Geisler FEE: $10 You signed up for Ravelry but do not know how proceed from there. You are not sure how to operate the advanced search engine to find a particular pattern or you have a particular yarn in your stash and do not know what to make out of it. Come and join us for this online class, you can work along on your own computer and see how Ravelry can support you in your fiber journey. HOMEWORK: Sign up and sign into Ravelry (this is free). SKILL LEVEL: Students who are curious about what Ravelry has to offer. |
Banana Socks
WHEN: Sunday, June 23, 1 - 3:30 pm
INSTRUCTOR: Heike Geisler FEE: $35 You always wanted to knit socks, but you are worried about the construction, fighting holes around the heel flap? This is the pattern for you! The sock is knitted top-down as a tube and the combination of vertical and horizontal lines guarantees an enjoyable knit and will get you a pair of socks which can be adjusted from baby to adult size. In this class we will work on a baby size sock, so you can see the complete construction. MATERIALS: Pattern: The pattern and all supporting instruction will be provided by the instructor. Yarn: 1 skein of DK weight yarn. The shop sample was knit with Encore DK. Needle: US #5 DPNs OR two US #5, 24” circular OR 40” US #5 circular needle (if you prefer the Magic Loop method). Stitch markers of different colors. HOMEWORK: Cast on 28 stitches. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Use any circular method you prefer, place the marker for the end of the round. Work 8 rounds in [k1, p1] pattern. SKILL LEVEL: Students should have some experience knitting in the round. |

Sweater Workshop
Every 1st Thursday of the month, 5 - 7 pm
INSTRUCTOR: Lisa Bates FEE: $15 Lisa will be here to lend advice, and support for the many aspects related to sweater construction and completion. Typical sweater details involve: sizing (ease), matching pattern dimensions to your gauge or the other way!, colorwork, short rows, shaping at underarm/shoulder, seaming, fixing mistakes without ripping out entire (very long) rows, charts, brioche and more! NOTE: If your problem is major OR Thursdays don’t work, you can still schedule a private lesson by appointment. Space is limited to 8 participants, so please call/email to reserve your seat. |
Help for Knitting or Crochet Projects
Every 3rd Sunday of the month, 1-3 pm
INSTRUCTOR: Kathy Loegering FEE: $15 Who is It For: those seeking advice or assistance with knit or crochet. Please email or call (518 861-0038) so that Kathy knows to expect you. Also, it is best to arrive no later than 2:30 pm in order to have enough time. What Kind of Help: basic knit & crochet issues such as reading and understanding patterns, ripping out or picking up stitches, starting a new project, reading patterns, choosing yarn, casting on, binding off concerns. NOTE: If your problem is major OR Sundays don’t work, you can still schedule a private lesson by appointment. This is NOT a session to teach beginning knitting or crochet.
