The Spinning Room is “kicking-off” a new charity event
                               Armed Forces Day
                                                                              May 21, 2022
We are calling all knitters, crocheter, weavers and sewers who want to contribute to a most worthwhile cause that will honor veterans. The Community Hospice (a local charity here) works with Stratton Veterans Hospital in Albany, N. Y. to ensure end of life care for all veterans. We can help by providing blankets of any size that are knit, crocheted, woven or sewn.
Please consider making a blanket for a veteran (both men and women) in Hospice or Palliative care. Any color is fine, but there is a preference for red, white and blue. All blankets should be washable/dryable and please attach a card with your name and address so they can send you a personal thank you.
This program runs all year long so bring finished blankets to the Spinning Room and Kathy will collect them and take them to our local office where they can be distributed to those in need of a little love and comfort. Let’s see what we can have by November 1, 2022 and another collection in the spring of 2023.Thanks for your help.
For more information visit www.WEHonorVeterans.org or www.CommunityHospice.org.

                                          Berroco Yarn 123 Dropship Program

The Spinning Room is thrilled to work with Berroco Yarns in their new new program which allow our customers to select any Berroco yarns from their website, and have the yarn shipped directly to you.
This is a great opportunity to try some yarns we don't normally carry. We are intrigued to see what everyone orders - that could tell us what we might want to bring into the shop! In addition to the Berroco yarn line, also look at: Lang, Lopi, Amano & Wooladdicts.

How does it work?
1. Take a look at the Berroco yarn page.
2. Pick out what you would like including color information ~ yes, they will ship a single skein! Warehouse is located in Northern Rhode Island.
3. Give us a call, or drop an email to the shop with your selection.
4. We will get your information, and give you a price.
5. Once we arrange payment, it will appear at the location of your choosing in a few business days.

As has been our tradition each year we are giving you the opportunity to knit or crochet for a good cause.  This year 2 customers made suggestions and we liked both.

Kim brought “Hats for Sailors" to our attention.
The Hat for Sailors' mission is to provide deployed sailors of the US Navy and the Coast Guard with handmade 100% washable wool hats made by loving volunteers from around the world. These beautiful hats are delivered in time for the December holidays, a bit of warm love and thanks to those who unselfishly take time away from their families to serve our Country. This year they are hoping for 6,000 hats for a very large carrier boat.  Hats must be made from 100% wool (superwash preferred) and can be of any color or design and knit or crocheted. We have copies of suggested patterns at the shop.
Hats need to be dropped off at the shop by November 9th.
If you do not have a pattern available, we have instructions for these free patterns at the shop.

Laura suggested the idea of “Soap Sacks”:

The sacks would be included in the holiday baskets that the Focus Food Pantry in Albany, will give to approximately 200 families. The families greatly appreciate a little something extra from the pantry during the holiday season. These are best made from cotton or a cotton/blend.
Free knitting and crochet patterns for this project can be picked up at the shop.
Soap Sacks will need to be dropped off by November 23rd.

                       Another Technique Discussion
                            ~ Short Rows
~

When: Friday, Feb 19, 7-8pm
                                            with Lisa,

Short Rows are a technique to add shaping and dimension to a knitted garment: like in the heel of a sock, top back or bottom hem on a sweater, the sloped line on a sweater shoulder, bust darts, etc. There are many ways to do short rows, and many of the techniques are interchangeable, but some are not. Some of the techniques are better suited for different fabric types: garter vs stockinette.
We will discuss the various techniques and show some samples. Lisa will provide a resource reference for your further research. We won't have time to get into learning how to do all the techniques. However, there will be a future class both in store and virtual, that will delve into the HowToDoThem and & How to change between the common techniques, if a pattern uses a short row approach that you don't care for.
